Geraldine van Heemstra
Born and raised in Holland, married to a Scotsman and living with their young family in
London.
Academic Qualifications:
1995 Postgraduate Diploma in the Conservation of Easel Paintings at the Courtauld Insitute
of Art, London University
1992 M.A. History of Art in Western Art and Architecture, University of Utrecht
Work Experience:
Geraldine has worked as a restorer in the Conservation departments of the National Gallery
in Washington, the Mauritshuis in The Hague, the Hamilton Kerr Institute in Whittlesford
(Cambridge) and the Royal Collection in Windsor.
Building on her experience and extensive knowledge of materials and techniques of the Old
Masters, Geraldine enjoys exploring the possibilities of working with various mediums and
methods such as watercolour, oils, etching and monoprinting.
Strongly drawn to nature as a starting point for all her work, she spends a lot of time in the
Scottish Isles and recently in Zeeland. The shifting of the weather patterns of light and shade
across the clouds, the sea and the land of these two seemingly different countries keep
inspiring her work.
